What this grammar checker finds

The checker reads your text sentence by sentence and flags four kinds of problems. Each one is colour-coded in the preview, so you can see at a glance where the issues cluster.

TypeWhat it catchesExample
SpellingTypos and misspelled words, including words that are right in one variety of English but not another"actualy" → "actually"
GrammarSubject–verb agreement, wrong word forms, confused words and capitalisation"a website dont rank" → "a website doesn't rank"
PunctuationMissing or doubled commas, spacing around punctuation and typographic slips"However the results" → "However, the results"
StyleWordy phrases, repeated words and redundant expressions"in order to" → "to"

How to use the grammar checker

  1. Choose your variety of English. US and UK English spell many words differently, such as "optimize" and "optimise".
  2. Paste your text, up to 18,000 characters at a time.
  3. Click Check grammar. Issues are underlined in the preview and listed with suggested fixes.
  4. Click a suggestion to apply it, or Ignore to dismiss it. Apply all spelling fixes accepts the top suggestion for every spelling mistake at once.
  5. Click Copy text to take the corrected version back to your editor.

Does grammar affect SEO?

Grammar isn't a direct ranking signal, but it's part of how Google describes quality content. Google's own checklist for helpful content asks, "Does the content have any spelling or stylistic issues?" and "Is the content produced well, or does it appear sloppy or hastily produced?" (source: Google Search Central).

Errors also cost you readers. A page full of typos is harder to trust, so visitors leave sooner and are less likely to link to it or buy from you. For a broader check of E-E-A-T, structure and readability, run the finished draft through our content quality checker.

What a grammar checker can't do

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this grammar checker free? ▼
Yes. It's free with no sign-up and no limit on how many documents you check, though the checking service allows about 20 checks a minute.
How much text can I check at once? ▼
Up to 18,000 characters, which is roughly 3,000 words. For longer documents, check them in parts.
Does it check British English? ▼
Yes. Choose English (UK), Australia, Canada, New Zealand or South Africa from the language menu, and spelling suggestions will follow that variety.
Is my text stored? ▼
No. We don't store your text. When you click Check grammar, it is sent to LanguageTool's free public service to be checked, under LanguageTool's privacy policy.
Why are some correct words flagged? ▼
Brand names, technical terms and new words often aren't in the dictionary. If a word is right, click Ignore.
Does grammar affect Google rankings? ▼
Not directly. But Google's helpful content guidance asks whether content has spelling or stylistic issues, and errors make readers trust a page less.
What's the difference between this and a paraphrasing tool? ▼
A grammar checker fixes mistakes and keeps your wording. A paraphrasing tool rewrites your sentences in new words. Use the grammar checker for final proofreading.
