The best AI visibility tool depends on budget and engine coverage: Semrush or SE Visible for most SEO teams, Peec AI or Otterly.AI for lean agencies, and Profound or Scrunch for enterprise brands. Before paying, run the free option first: Google Search Console's generative AI report, Bing's AI Performance report and a manual prompt log.
Key takeaways
- Every tracker in this category samples answers by running prompts. None sees what real users were shown, so treat the numbers as directional.
- Engine coverage varies more than price. Check that ChatGPT, AI Overviews and AI Mode are on the plan you're buying, not sold as add-ons.
- Entry prices run from about $29 a month (Otterly.AI Lite) to custom enterprise contracts (Profound, Scrunch Enterprise).
- Google and Bing now give you free first-party AI data. Start there, then buy a tool only when you need competitor share of voice.
Prices and plan limits below were checked on each vendor's own pricing page on 29 September 2026. This category reprices every few months, so confirm before you buy.
Selection criteria: what makes a good AI visibility tool
A tracker in this category sends a set of prompts to AI engines (ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini and others), stores the answers, and reports how often your brand is mentioned, cited or linked compared with competitors. If you're new to the metric itself, start with my guide to AI search visibility.
I judged each tool on six things.
Engine coverage. Which engines are included on the plan you'd actually pay for? Several vendors list ten engines on the homepage and include three at the entry tier.
Prompt volume and frequency. How many prompts you can track, and whether they run daily or weekly. AI answers change a lot from run to run, so daily runs on fewer prompts usually beat weekly runs on many.
Mentions vs citations. A brand mention in the answer text and a cited link to your URL are different wins. Good tools report both.
Source data. The most useful report in any of these tools is the list of domains and URLs the engines cite. That list tells you where to get covered (Reddit threads, review sites, listicles) if you want to show up.
Competitor share of voice. Your mention rate means little alone. You need it next to three or four competitors on the same prompts.
Price per useful prompt. Divide the monthly price by prompts times engines. That's the number to compare, not the headline plan price.
A note on accuracy
The title promises accuracy, so here's the honest version. No tool can show you what a logged-in ChatGPT user with memory and location turned on actually saw. Tools run prompts from their own accounts or through APIs, and answers vary by session, phrasing and day. Two tools tracking the same prompt on the same day can disagree.
That's why the fair test is running the same prompt set through each tool and comparing results, rather than trusting vendor claims.

8 AI visibility tool reviews
1. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit
Semrush sells its AI toolkit as a standalone product at $99 a month billed annually with a 7-day trial, and bundles bigger prompt allowances into its Semrush One plans (50, 100 and 200 daily prompts on Starter, Pro+ and Advanced).
What you get: an AI Visibility Score, competitor comparison, prompt research (think keyword research for prompts), brand sentiment and share of voice, daily prompt tracking and an AI-readiness site audit. The standalone plan covers ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity.
The weak spot is volume. Twenty-five tracked prompts on the standalone plan is thin for anything beyond a single brand. The strength is that the data sits next to your keyword and backlink data, which makes it easy to tie AI prompts to classic SEO work.
2. SE Visible (SE Ranking)
SE Ranking runs AI tracking inside its main platform and as a separate product, SE Visible. SE Visible plans start at $99 a month for 200 prompts and 3 projects, then $189 for 450 prompts and $355 for 1,000. Every plan tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, Perplexity and AI Overviews with daily refreshes, and there's a 10-day free trial.
On price per prompt, this is the strongest offer in the list. You also get sentiment, competitor analysis and source tracking, and unlimited users. It won't match Profound's depth on enterprise features, but for an agency running several client brands it covers the core job.
3. Ahrefs Brand Radar
Brand Radar works differently from the rest. Instead of only tracking prompts you write, it gives you a pre-built index of hundreds of millions of prompts across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, so you can see how any brand shows up across a whole topic.
On Ahrefs' pricing page, Brand Radar AI starts at $199 a month as a standalone subscription, and custom prompt tracking packs start at $50 a month. Paid Ahrefs plans include a small number of custom prompts.
Use it for market research: which competitors dominate a category, which sources AI keeps citing. It's less suited to tracking a tight list of 30 money prompts daily unless you add a custom prompt pack.
4. Otterly.AI
Otterly.AI is the cheapest serious entry point. The Lite plan is $29 a month for 15 prompts, then Standard at $189 for 100 prompts and Premium at $489 for 400. The base engines are ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot; Claude, Gemini and AI Mode are paid add-ons.
Beyond tracking, it includes a GEO URL audit, Looker Studio connector and API access on the higher plans. Fifteen prompts isn't much, but for a freelancer or a local business owner who wants to watch 10 core questions, it's the lowest-risk way to start.
5. Peec AI
Peec AI reports four things per prompt: visibility (share of answers that mention you), position, sentiment and sources, with domain- and URL-level citation data. Plans are Starter (50 prompts), Pro (150) and Advanced (350), each with daily tracking and a choice of 3 models from ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Gemini and others. Extra models can be added for a fee, and Claude is listed only on Enterprise.
Pricing loads dynamically on its site, so check peec.ai/pricing before you buy. A review updated in August 2026 lists Starter at about €70 a month billed annually (about €82 monthly), Pro at €180 and Advanced at €360, with extra models from €25 a month.
Unlimited seats on every plan make it popular with agencies. The three-model cap is the thing to watch.
6. Rankscale
Rankscale is credit-based: Essentials at $20 a month, Pro at $99 (1,200 credits), Growth at $385 and Enterprise at $780. It tracks a long list of engines including ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Claude, Grok and Copilot, and unused credits roll over.
The credit model is flexible but takes some maths. Work out how many answers you'll pull per month (prompts × engines × runs) before you pick a tier. It's a good fit if you need engines the bigger suites don't cover.
7. Scrunch
Scrunch's Starter plan is $300 month-to-month ($250 billed annually) with 350 custom prompts, and Growth is $500 ($417 annually) with 700. It tracks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews, and Meta.
The difference is its Agent Experience Platform (AXP), which serves an AI-friendly version of your site to AI agents and crawlers. Whether that's worth it depends on how much AI bot traffic you get, so check your server logs before paying for it. If you're already publishing an llms.txt file, you'll have a sense of how far you want to go down this path.
8. Profound
Profound is the enterprise pick. The public pricing page lists a free 7-day trial (50 prompts, run daily, across ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews) and a custom Enterprise plan that tracks up to 9 answer engines, including Perplexity, AI Mode, Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude and Exa Search, with SSO, SOC 2 compliance, API access and full data history.
Its extras go beyond tracking: Prompt Volumes (estimated demand for prompts), Agent Analytics (how AI bots crawl and cite your pages) and ChatGPT Shopping visibility at SKU level. If you're a large brand with a budget and a team to act on the data, it's the deepest product here. For a 10-person agency, it's usually more than you need.
Free alternatives to paid AI search optimization tools
Reddit threads on AI search optimization tools keep landing on the same complaint: $300 a month to count mentions you could check by hand. It's a fair point for small sites. Here's the free stack I'd set up before buying anything.
Google Search Console generative AI report. As of 31 August 2026, Google has rolled out a Generative AI performance report that shows impressions for links to your site in AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page, country, device and date. It doesn't show clicks or the prompts, but it's first-party Google data, which no third-party tool has.
Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance. Launched in public preview in February 2026, Bing's AI Performance report shows total citations in Copilot and Bing AI answers, which of your pages are cited, and the grounding queries the AI used to retrieve your content. The grounding queries are the closest thing to real prompt data you'll get for free.
GA4 referral traffic. Build an exploration filtered to sessions from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com and copilot.microsoft.com. It won't show mentions without clicks, but it shows which pages AI answers send people to.
Vendor free checkers. Semrush's free AI visibility checker gives three free runs a day, and SE Ranking's tracker page offers a handful of free checks. Useful for one-off snapshots.
A manual prompt log. This is the free version of what every paid tool does:
- Write 20 to 30 prompts across four types: category ("best CRM for dentists"), problem ("how do I stop no-shows"), comparison ("X vs Y") and brand ("is X any good").
- Open ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini in logged-out or private windows, and check Google for AI Overviews and AI Mode.
- Run each prompt once a week on the same day, same country, same wording.
- Log four columns per engine in a spreadsheet: mentioned (Y/N), cited with link (Y/N), position in the answer, and the top 3 cited domains.
- After four weeks, calculate your mention rate per engine and compare it with two competitors on the same prompts.
- List the domains that keep getting cited but don't mention you. Those are your outreach and content targets.
Budget roughly an hour a week for 25 prompts across four engines. When that hour starts costing more than a $99 plan, buy the tool.
Which AI visibility tool should you choose?
You're a small business or freelancer with under $50 a month. Use the free stack above, then add Otterly.AI Lite if you want automated daily runs on 15 prompts.
You're an in-house SEO already paying for Semrush or Ahrefs. Start with the AI features you already have access to. Semrush's toolkit fits prompt tracking; Ahrefs Brand Radar fits category-level research. Add a dedicated tool only if prompt limits bite.
You're an agency with several clients. SE Visible gives the most prompts per dollar with every major engine on every plan. Peec AI is the alternative if your team prefers its reporting and unlimited seats, as long as three models per project is enough.
You need engines beyond the big five. Rankscale covers the longest list, including Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral and Grok, on a pay-per-credit basis.
You're an enterprise brand. Shortlist Profound and Scrunch, ask each for a trial on your own prompt set, and compare them against each other and against your Search Console AI impressions.
Whichever you pick, the tool only measures. The work of getting mentioned is covered in how to rank in ChatGPT and how to rank in AI Overviews. For tools that help with the rest of your SEO, see my roundup of the best AI SEO tools.

Frequently asked questions
What are the best AI visibility tools?
For most SEO teams, Semrush's AI Visibility Toolkit or SE Visible offer the best mix of price and engine coverage. Otterly.AI is the cheapest paid start at $29 a month. Peec AI suits agencies. Profound and Scrunch are built for enterprise brands with larger budgets.
How do you track AI search rankings?
Pick 20 to 30 prompts your buyers ask, run them in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, AI Overviews and AI Mode on a fixed schedule, and log whether you're mentioned, cited and in what position. Paid tools automate this daily. Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools add free first-party AI impression and citation data.
Are AI visibility tools accurate?
They're directional. Each tool runs prompts from its own accounts, while real users get answers shaped by location, history and phrasing. Results change between runs, so look at trends over weeks and across many prompts, not single answers. Cross-check against Search Console and Bing AI data where you can.
Is there a free AI visibility tool?
Yes. Google Search Console now has a generative AI performance report for AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions, and Bing Webmaster Tools shows Copilot citations. Semrush and SE Ranking offer limited free checkers. A manual weekly prompt log in a spreadsheet covers the rest.
How many prompts should I track?
Start with 20 to 50 prompts per brand, split across category, problem, comparison and brand questions. That's enough to see patterns without paying for noise. Add prompts when you launch new pages or products, and drop ones that never trigger an AI answer.
